Natural Capital Week 2018
Organised by The Natural Capital Coalition, a unique global
multi-stakeholder collaboration that brings together leading initiatives and
organizations to harmonize approaches to natural capital.
Sounds lovely but what exactly is natural capital?
It's all of our resources such as plants, animals, minerals
etc., both renewable and non-renewable, together they combine to create a flow
of benefits to people. These benefits include clean air, food, water, energy,
and the raw materials we use in the creation of products. As well as the less
obvious benefits such as flood defence, climate regulation, pollination and
recreation.
Natural Capital forms the basis of all other capital,
including financial, manufactured, social and relationships.
This week is to recognise the important of natural capital
and during the week leading organisations in the natural capital space from
across the globe will convene in Paris for events, discussions and networking.
Subject up for discussion include: Climate Finance Day
(yesterday), Green Growth and Sustainable Development and today, the
Biodiversité conference looking at
Business & Biodiversity -
Roadmaps to Positive Impact which is going to explore how roadmaps can
guide business actions and mobilise their employees towards integrating natural
capital and biodiversity into their business activities to achieve a measurable
net positive impact.
What can we do?
To help ordinary businesses and organisations the Coalition
has designed the Natural Capital Protocol, a framework designed to help
generate trusted, credible, and actionable information for business managers to
inform decisions which aims to support better decisions by including how we
interact with nature, or more specifically natural capital.
