1-7 June was Volunteers Week: Volunteering has never been so necessary to keep the countryside thriving and our conservation efforts bearing fruit. The impact of the pandemic on funding has been enormous, however there is hope on the horizon with talk of Green Recovery and several government backed initiatives and grants coming online. As lockdown is relaxed volunteering programmes are once again open for (socially distanced) participants whether that’s for an hour or a year and now there are many things that can be done from home.
If you'd like to join our amazing army of volunteers giving their time and skills to make a massive difference to our countryside, conservation and wildlife see what's needed across the sector and available near you by wandering through our online Volunteer Directory. [more]

Respect The Water. By Sam Johnson, National Water Safety
Education Partner, RNLI.
More than ever, we need your help to reach the
public with vital water safety messaging. We want to reach people while they are
planning a trip, enroute to a location and most importantly while enjoying our
beaches and coastline. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s (RNLI) Water
Safety Team was established in 2020 to focus and target its prevention work in
areas that will help people before they get into difficulty in, on and around
the waters of the UK and ROI. Working with partners, our fantastic team of staff

Introducing B-Lines the super insect highways from
Buglife
We all see wildflowers as beautiful and great for our
well-being. But for the thousands of pollinating insects that share this land
with us, wildflowers are vital.
Since 1940 we’ve lost ninety seven percent
of our flower rich meadows and hundreds of our pollinator species are in
decline. At Buglife we have come up with a beautiful solution to the problem.
B-Lines – a network of insect pathways along which we are restoring and creating
wildflower rich habitat. [more]

UK net zero carbon emissions by 2050? Yes - if we buy into
blue carbon .written by Marine Conservation Society
We must reduce
the impacts we have on the planet’s natural ecosystems - because carrying on as

emissions by 2050. Is that even possible? Yes, if we invest in protecting our
marine ecosystems like seabed sediments, saltmarsh, seagrass, shellfish and kelp
habitats. These habitats are the key to the carbon question – here's why. [more]
