Hedgehogs. Why can't they just share the hedge?
So asked Comedian Dan Antopolski at the
Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 (and won best joke in the process!).
We don't have as
many hedges as we once did and so perhaps that might be one reason why hedge hogging
mammals are in trouble? Although counting hedgehogs is difficult there
is evidence that numbers are declining from an estimated 36.5m in the 1950's to
around 1.5m in 1995 and still falling. Read the latest numbers and how things

This week is Hedgehog Awareness Week running from 6th – 12thMay 2018 and The British Hedgehog Preservation Society is asking everyone to do
one thing for hedgehogs during the week, report a sighting, cut a hole in your
fence, contact local councils and tool hire companies asking them to be
hedgehog aware (strimmers and mowers are a major cause of injury).
