Following last year's reader survey we've made a quite a few, small changes to the website and how you access the content. First we updated the daily email to make it easier to read the news and also altered the time we sent it out, more on this one here. The next one was to the online jobs, creating a separate page for entry level jobs and apprentieceships, introducing new categories, splitting existing ones to make it easier to find the right posts, reintroducing a dedicated sustainability sector and, at last, divided Scotland into two separate regions, north and south. During Tick Bite Prevention
Week (in March) we warned everyone: Watch out, ticks about! Lyme
Disease Action explain all about ticks and lyme disease as well as other
tick-borne diseases. There are hints on how to spot ticks and what to do if you
find one adn detail what symptoms of the diease to be aware of. They say:
"Many, if not most, of those working in the countryside will have come across
ticks, but it is worth emphasising the need for awareness as tick-borne human
disease is spreading in the UK." [more]
Wild Wellbeing Walks for Women

Young women in London have reported feeling more likely to
use green space to benefit their health and wellbeing, as well as feeling more
confident exploring the outdoors after participating in the ‘Wild Walks’
initiative which deliver wellbeing-centred activities on urban nature reserves,
specifically for young women from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic
backgrounds (aged 16-25). [more]

Waddling Wildlife

Penguins have been an integral part of the Royal
Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) history and have played an important
role in our charity’s conservation projects around the globe since Edinburgh Zoo
opened in 1913. Find out about the conservation status of these birds with
the funny waddles, tuxedo attire and charismatic personalities and what's it's
like caring for them on a day to day basis Lorna says: "Being a penguin keeper

This month's news includes
the latest IPCC reports, the Government's energy strategy and environmental
targets announcements plus reactions, also a report from 13 nature charities on
the need for urgent UK leadership in 2022 to restore nature at home and
globally.Lots of tree planting news from many different organisations but there
is concern over the Government's tree planting plan and details of how farming
can aid with the climate battle.
Good news from
research on rewildlilding, ZSL says "astounding UK nature recovery" which has
been observed from space and a call for a Natural History GCSE to be included in
the education plans to be announced this spring. Reports show waterbirds and
seabirds are facing a wide range of problems impacting their success, however,
BTO reveals that some swallows are opting to stay in Britain for the winter.
And finally: Rathlin's puffins are as punctual as ever,
returning right on schedule.
