A few changes and things to watch out
for. Feedback from last year's reader survey.
Cast your mind back to
before Christmas - I know it seems forever ago! Last autumn we asked you for
your thoughts and feedback on CJS in the reader survey, the first full one for
quite a few years. It was VERY long, so thanks to everyone who made it all the
way through, we've finally got to the end of the analysis which has taken much
longer than anticipated. You may have seen a few mentions of things we've
changed already and there are more updates in the pipeline. Here's an overview.
Our Featured Charity for 2022: Countryside
Classroom write about their long running and highly successful Chef on the Farm
project
This joint venture between LEAF Education and the Royal
Academy of Culinary Arts Adopt a School Trust. It provides an opportunity for a
class of children to visit a farm, to meet the farmer and to learn about what is
grown and reared on the farm and then to learn to cook with a professional chef.

What Works in Conservation? By
Kate Willott, Research Assistant at Conservation Evidence.
Perhaps you work
in conservation, or want to. If so, it is probably because you care about
wildlife and wild places and want to protect them. So how can we best protect
the nature that we care about? One important aspect is making sure that each
conservation action we take is the most effective one possible. Finding out
which conservation actions work best can be difficult. [more]

Countryside Apprenticeships By
Adam Collett, Trainer Assessor Team Leader - Countryside & Water Environment
at Bridgwater and Taunton College
The environmental sector is filled with a
wide range of practical jobs which require a skilled workforce and significant
knowledge of the natural world and the interactions of a variety of flora and
fauna. Many people follow an academic route through Level 2 and 3 qualifications
and up to Degree, Masters and PhD level courses to try and gain entry to this
massively competitive field only to be told “You don’t have any practical
experience”. This is where apprenticeships open the door, heavily focussed on
gaining practical experience in a real job role, apprenticeships allow people to
gain this practical experience hand-in-hand with the academic knowledge
required. Apprenticeships really are the answer to the question “But how do I
become a Ranger/Warden/Land Manager?” [more]

The Government's response to the Glover Review is
our top story this month, there are several responses too. Unfortunately there
are far too many items featuring pollution from forever toxic chemicals in waterways to the long lasting problem of plastic pollution, but if you have an
idea on how to clean up coastal pollution Geovation (part of Ordnance Survey)
has launched competition to find a sustainable solution.
As a result of the
survey feedback we've started covering Rural Regeneration news, there are two
items this month, on planning and broadband (or lack of). Our feelgood stories
this month include a rescued seal now happy in France and the incredible story
of orca freeing a humpback whale tangled in ropes.
Calendar of events and short courses occurring in
March plus additions made over the past month.

Forest Machinery
