The latest CJS Focus is in affiliation with the
Association of Countryside Volunteers.
Running to twenty two pages the lead article introduces ACV, gives some
background on the organisation and details some of the hopes for the future.
Many organisations have ‘Friends Groups’ associated with their countryside
sites. Duncan Priddle at
East Lothian
Council explores some of the issues encountered when setting up and running
these groups and gives some very sound advice.
Natural England gives a case study of Fenn’s, Whixall &
Bettisfield Mosses NNR, where last year, volunteers gave an extra 1800 hours,
the equivalent to an extra 6 staff. Further evidence of the monetary value of
volunteering is provided by Graham Appleton of
BTO who adds in some figures for volunteer contributions to the
Trust.

Partnership discusses the range of
volunteer opportunities they offer and describes the different volunteer roles
they have been able to identify within their work.
Shropshire Wildlife Trust has written an article about their
Volunteering Strategy and the changes that have been made to volunteer
recruitment in the last few years. To end, the success of
Bioblitz is described along with details of how to set up your own
event. Added in to the mix are 43 individual volunteer positions and lots of
work day events and projects to get involved in.
